Geochemical Mass Balance: dissolved chemical inflow and outflow from the ocean

<aside> 💡 **The goal of the topic although we know about seawater’s bioactive and adsorbed processes, which control concentration distribution in seawater but little about the “conservative” elements.

Conservation of elements that make up most of the salinity of the oceans provides clues to the mechanism that controls their sources and sinks. Thus, the chemical perspective of oceanography revealed by conservative element concentrations is about processes that occur at the ocean boundaries.**

The mass balance between input from land and authigenic mineral formation

The main mechanism for the delivery of dissolved constituents to the ocean is river inflow and atmospheric input. The formation of authigenic minerals (those minerals that form in situ) is the ultimate sink for these constituents.
